Audemars Piguet presents Millenary MC12 Tourbillon Chronograph

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Audemars Piguet Millenary MC12 Tourbillon ChronographThe Audemars Piguet Millenary MC12 Tourbillon Chronograph is a high quality watch inspired by the Maserati MC12 Corse. The watch comes with matching colors and the Maserati Trident.

At first glance it looks like the car-inspired timepiece has nothing in common with the car it is trying to represent, except maybe the color finish. However, on closer look it becomes clear that both have the same intricate qualities and precision engineering. The Maserati MC12, which comes in the popular white and blue finish, was the authorized vehicle for the FIA GTI competitive MC12 race car. The chronograph is absolutely an impressive piece of engineering just like the street-going MC12. However, the most remarkable thing about the Audemars Pigeut is its $315,000 price tag, which is twice the price of the Gran Turismo S. The timepieces will be produced in a limited run of just 150 watches. Photo gallery after the jump!

Rumor: Upcoming Maserati GranTurismo Spyder will feature a soft-top

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Maserati GranTurismo ConvertibleThe latest Maserati GranTurismo Spyder will not come with a retractable hard top which is the common trend among convertibles like the Ferrari California and others as initially thought.

There are confirmed reports saying that it has chosen with the more typical soft top. The move toward the soft top was caused by the poor sales performance of the Ferrari California. Furthermore, Maserati would like to aim more fully at the soft-top convertible Bentley Continental GTC. There are studies done that show more customers would opt for a soft-top rather than a retractable hardtop. Further details include the top down Grand Turismo will be sharing powertrains and transmissions with the coupe variant. The implication is that the 405hp 4.2-liter V8 together with the 433hp 4.7-liter unit will be ultimately offered since the carmaker always desires to boost interest on its new models. Come September 2009, the Maserati GranTurismo Spyder will be introduced to the world at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Although a premium is to be anticipated over the Coupe version, pricing details have not yet been released for the new model.

Maserati GranTurismo MC breaks cover

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Maserati GranTurismo MCThe new Maserati GranTurismo MC racecar, which has been developed for competition in the FIA GT4 class and in several other GT4 European Cup races in the latter part of 2009, has been revealed.

It is derivative of the GranTurismo MC Concept which was introduced in Monza last September and is patterned on the electro-actuated gearbox system-equipped GrandTurismo S road version. Not much is known about the car except that it is powered by the GranTurismo’s 4.7-liter V8 powerplant and comes with a double cone racing air filter, high-flow exhaust with removable catalysts and a full carbon fiber body. According to the carmaker the car comes with a power-to-weight ratio of less than 3.4kg/hp (4.6g/kW) and a curb weight of under 1,400kg. The car was deliberately chosen with GT4 traits because this is the class with the closest connection to factory versions, and also the response to a niche of GranTurismo road car owners who are looking for a racing variant of their cars. There will be a limited series GranTurismo manufactured for those who want to enter the 2010 GT4 European Cup and the national series which will hit the market beginning October 2009. The initial price tag is 135,000 Euros excluding taxes, and the racecars will be vended directly via the company’s racing division, the Maserati Corse. Eventually, Maserati will be launching its own one-make series, akin to the Super Trofeo series of Lamborghini, hoping to debut the car next year. Photo gallery after the jump!
