Fernando Alonso receives a Maserati GranCabrio

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

2010 Maserati GranCabrio Fernando AlonsoWho wouldn’t envy two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso for having been given a new 2010 Maserati GranCabrio? Alonso, who joined team Scuderia Ferrari this year, took the win at the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend.

There is a wide variety of colors available for the Maserati. We certainly approve Alonso’s choice of a darker, Grigio Granito paint for the exterior, while the interior is a two-tone combination of Pearl Beige and Bordeaux leather. He chose a matching shade for the soft top as well. As previously reported, the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible is the functional equivalent of the S Automatic model, except that it doesn’t have a roof. The car’s 433hp 4.7-liter V-8 is coupled to a six-speed ZF automatic transmission with modified software and a shorter final gear. Operating the centerpiece tri-layer fabric top takes 20 about seconds to either open or shut. With the windows, you’d have to add an extra 8 seconds. The new Maserati GranTurismo Convertible will arrive at the 56 Maserati dealers in North America in the spring. Photo gallery after the jump!

With the split that occurred in early 2006, Maserati and Ferrari are not anymore a part of the same business unit within the Fiat empire. However, Ferrari is the brand that’s closest conceptually to Maserati when it comes to hardware. In fact, Maranello is already a major supplier.
