At the end of 2010, SAIC Motor Corp. is set to start manufacturing the new MG 6 sedan in the UK. After a merger with Nanjing Automobile Group in late 2007, SAIC became the owner of MG Rover’s 10,000-unit Longbridge plant in Birmingham, central England.

This factory will serve as a platform for SAIC to be able to tap the European market. In an interview with reporters before the Guangzhou auto show opened, SAIC President Chen Hong confirmed plans about the MG 6 but he declined to disclose a sales target. He admitted SAIC’s interest to take over LDV, a British light commercial vehicle maker. He said that SAIC is teaming up with a British partner for this deal. He also said that LDV would continue to assemble vehicles in Britain using components made in China. SAIC is included in a rising number of Chinese automakers, including Geely Automobile Holdings, that intend to make their name globally.
