Mercedes-Benz buys a 75% stake in the Brawn GP team

Brawn GP MonopostUnlike other carmakers that have withdrawn from racing, Mercedes-Benz is increasing its interests and financial commitments and has even purchased a 75% stake in the Brawn GP team. Mercedes-Benz currently owns a 40% stake in the McLaren team however; this will be sold back to the McLaren Group within the next couple of years. Read more after the jump!

Mercedes-Benz to buy 75% stake in the Brawn GP F1 team

Brawn GP MonopostBy 2011, at least 75% of the Brawn GP team will be owned by Mercedes-Benz, according to veteran journalist Roger Benoit of the Swiss publication Blick. Reportedly, Mercedes will buy into the team next year. Benoit also claims that Nico Rosberg will be driving a silver-painted Brawn car next year. Mercedes is said to be interested in signing the son of former F1 champion Keke Rosberg, not to partner Lewis Hamilton at McLaren but Jenson Button at Brawn. However, this report seems to contradict the statement of team’s CEO Nick Fry that he is “more than happy” with the current lineup of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button. Benoit reports that Rosberg is to sign with Brawn from 2010 and that Ross Brawn’s team is to become Mercedes’ new works team in Formula One starting 2012. He said that Mercedes will allow its deal with the Woking based team to fade out until the end of next season, after which they’ll switch all attention to Brawn.
