Nissan answers to Porsche, again!

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Nissan GT-RLast week Porsche, the well-known German manufacturer accused Nissan that it used special tyres when set the Nurburgring record with its GT-R a.k.a. Godzilla. Tired of all these, Nissan revealed today that the tires used at Nurburgring were the Dunlop SP Sport 600 DSST CTT, the standard tires used at every GT-R produced.

“Testing a car with specialized parts such as unique tires or suspension has no meaning for us. The GT-R was designed from the start to be a supercar that could be driven anywhere, anytime and by anyone.

For us, testing the car in standard production specification is far more relevant than creating a one-off vehicle that our customers cannot buy,” said Kazutoshi Mizuno, the chief engineer who supervised the building of the Nissan GT-R. More details after the jump!

Nissan answers to Porsche, defending its Nurburgring lap time

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

Nissan GT-REarlier this week we told that Porsche is accusing Nissan for cheating, more exactly the GT-R couldn’t race a lap on the Nurburgring (Nordschleife) racetrack in just 7 minutes and 29 seconds. In order to demonstrate this Porsche bought a standard Nissan GT-R, brought it to the German racetrack and the surprise came out: the GT-R raced the lap in 7 minutes and 54 seconds, with over 25 seconds more than the lap raced by Nissan driver.

After this, came the response of Nissan which was quite simple: “We’re not going to get into a war of words with Porsche. The final word from us is that it was done on absolutely standard tyres which are available to customers in the showroom. Normal Dunlop road tires, that come with the car!” said Nissan’s European spokesman Neil Reeve.

2008 Nissan GT-RAs you may know, Nissan brought its well-known GT-R on the Nürburgring (Nordschleife) racetrack and on April 17th 2007, the so-called Godzilla set a record lap time of 7 minutes and 29 seconds, with one second slower than the Porsche Carrera GT. After this record, things were not the same for Porsche. Defeated on its own territory, the German manufacturer couldn’t handle the truth and did some research. Nissan lies! Was the verdict!

Now let us tell you why. Porsche bought a Nissan GT-R and brought it to the German racetrack and the surprise came out: the Nissan GT-R raced the lap in 7 minutes and 54 seconds, with over 25 seconds more than the lap raced by Nissan driver. Moreover, the Porsche 911 Turbo and the GT2 were also faster than the GT-R: the turbo did 7 minutes and 38 seconds while the GT2 finished the lap in 7 minutes and 34 seconds. So what Porsche says, is that it is not clear how Nissan raced that lap so fast! This means that Nissan lies?
