Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Peugeot 3008 HybridPeugeot will soon be launching the world’s first diesel hybrid, a 3008-based four-wheel-drive car, which offers 200bhp and 369lb ft and utilizes a diesel-electric drivetrain. Emitting just 99g/km of CO2, the Hybrid 4 is an otherwise-conventional front-drive car that is powered by a 163bhp 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine fitted with a stop-start system.

Modifications related to the hybrid system, which adds 100kg to the weight of the car, include the incorporation of an electric motor (good for 36bhp and 147lb ft at full tilt) and twin driveshafts for the rear wheels. Under the boot floor, you can find a battery pack and a pair of electronic control units. Continued after the jump!

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Peugeot 3008 Prologue ConceptTo produce its diesel hybrid technology seen on both the Citroen Hypnos and Peugeot Prologue concepts at the 2008 Paris Auto Show, PSA Peugeot Citroen has joined with Bosch. The technology is expected to appear in showrooms beginning in 2011.

The Prologue concept functioned as a foretaste of the forthcoming 3008 mini-MPV while the Hypnos is a low-lying crossover concept. Both concepts assert 200 horsepower from their hybrid engines. Under the contract, Bosch will provide Peugeot with electric motors and the electronic systems for PSA Peugeot Citroen’s 4-wheel-drive diesel hybrids. The firm will also provide the antilock braking system and electronic stability program to optimize energy recovery. Bosch’s experience with hybrids goes back 30 years and the company presently has 370 personnel laboring in its hybrid unit. Photo gallery after the jump!
