Peugeot to reveal full-electric 307CC
Wednesday, December 9th, 2009
At the hydrogen technology conference this week in Lyon, France, Peugeot is expected to display a new demonstration vehicle. Based on a 307 CC coupe-convertible, the research vehicle is entirely propelled by electricity. The 307 demonstrator has an extended range electric powertrain that is highly similar to the Chevy Volt.
But this particular one uses a hydrogen fuel cell as the range extender. Peugeot installed a plug-in lithium ion battery pack from Johnson Controls-Saft but the plug-in range is still unknown. Peugeot only revealed the total range, which with a full tank of hydrogen, can go more than 500 km (about 310 miles). The 307 is claimed to achieve hydrogen consumption of less than 1 kg / 100 km, which makes it comparable to the Honda FCX Clarity. Peugeot recognizes the slow to non-existent rollout of hydrogen filling stations and doesn’t expect hydrogen vehicles to gain any significant commercial volume until 2020-2025. In the meantime, its first diesel hybrids will be launched in 2011 followed by a plug-in version a year later.
