eRUF Stormster Porsche CayenneYou remember RUF, the German tuner who created the first electric Porsche 911 dubbed eRUF a.k.a. Greenster. Rumor: 2011 Porsche Cayenne coming to the Geneva Motor Show

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

2010 Porsche Cayenne SThere is a flurry of activity gripping Porsche as the current generation Cayenne stops production in December and as its Leipzig factory prepares to build the generation Cayenne and Panamera four-door coupe. Porsche has been keeping the details of the next model under wraps and it’s likely we won’t know much until the model is revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Leipzig factory will be modified to be able to take on the additional models and sources estimate that the restructuring of the plant for the new model will take 2-3 months. The platform to be used by Porsche’s new Cayenne for 2011 will be the same used by the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7. There are rumors that the new Cayenne will be lighter by around 250 to 300 kilograms as the company will replace steel pieces with high-strength aluminum and magnesium. Porsche found out that these SUVs aren’t actually used by owners for off-road so it decided to eliminate most of the off-road features for a better on-road experience. With regards to performance, we can expect the 7-speed PDK gearbox and a new set of engine variants. In addition, there will be a new Hybrid S version.

Vw’s takeover may kill the Porsche Cayenne SUV and new Panamera

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

2009 Porsche CayenneMany speculations have cropped up over what will happen to Porsche’s product lineup once Volkswagen takes over. CAR Magazine in the UK has come up with its own dramatic predictions. The British site believes the popular Cayenne SUV and new Panamera will not be picked up again when their product cycles end in seven years.

CAR says VW chairman Ferdinand Piech is planning to take a more brand-specific approach to Porsche by focusing on the two seat sportscars that make the sports car maker great. The vehicle that keeps getting mentioned is a roadster that could slot below the Boxster in the Porsche lineup. The entry Porsche could be based on VW’s Modular Sportscar Structure (MSS), giving Porsche an entry level mid-engine sports car that considerably more will be able to afford. While it certainly won’t do well for the Stuttgart, Germany-based car maker to let go of its core products like the 911 and Boxster, it makes just as much sense to go where the money is. Sales of the Cayenne have been high in the U.S. and it’s likely that the Panamera could surprise us and be successful. When the product cycles of these two cars end after seven years, we’re willing to bet that one or both vehicles will survive beyond 2016.

More details of the next-generation Porsche Cayenne

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Porsche CayennePorsche is currently working on the next generation Cayenne, a star range wannabe on which the famous luxury car producer is betting every dime on it. The new design, signed by Michael Mauer’s team, shows a more elegant look with more curves which reminds of the 911’s classic design.

For a more delicate appearance the sides had been pushed inwards and the front was redesigned receiving a 911-shaped bonnet. Keeping the line of the 911 the tail-lights with rhombus aspect are reeled round the rear wings. Under the hood the new model will get a reworked direct-injection V8 engine capable of 395bHP reaching 100km/h in 5 seconds. The new Cayenne will also have available a version with a turbocharged V8 capable of 493 bhp reaching 100km/h in 4.3 sec and another version with the Turbo S, the top of the series, capable of 560 bhp. More details after the jump!
