Porsche planning smaller model powered by Audi TTS engine
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009
There are reports coming out saying that Porsche will be expanding its Boxster family of cars with a less expensive base model. If these reports are accurate, then Porsche might be considering a fresh Boxster model propelled by the same powerplant in the Audi TTS.
The powerplant in the present base Boxster is a flat-six powerplant that produces 255hp (190kW) and 213lb-ft (290kW) of top torque. With the new TTS powerplant power yield will rise by 20hp (15kW) and top torque by 44lb-ft (60Nm) and will permit a lower sticker price for the car thus setup. The plan to install the TTS unit into the Boxster has undergone internal discussions already and if the decision is finalized there could be a host of buyers opting for the cheaper model. The cheapest Boxster in the European market at the moment costs about 46,500 Euros , however, with the TTS unit installed the car will come with a 40,000 Euro ($55,000) price tag.
