Rumor: Mercedes-Benz SSK AMG will be the baby SLS?

2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMGDo you think that the Porsche 911 would be threatened by a baby version of Mercedes-Benz’s SLS AMG Gullwing supercar? Mercedes-Benz is thinking exactly that as it develops this car.

A source said that the new sports car would have a shortened version of the SLS supercar’s platform. It would copy its aluminum construction and use V8 power but instead of lift-up doors, it will have the conventional front-hinged access to make sure that the price is below $200,000. The two-seater, which is speculated to soon be known as the SSK AMG, is on track for a 2014 launch. Continued after the jump!

Mercedes-Benz planning more hybrids and AMG models

2010 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMGTo comply with the current environmental law requirements, Mercedes-Benz intends to commit to its plan to add a new hybrid model each year from 2009 onwards to lay the groundwork for raising hybrid sales to 20% of its corporate total by 2015.

Aside from filling the need for compliance, this goal is also a reflection of customer demand and as a means to position the brand to continue beyond the eventual end of the combustion engine. At the recently held Frankfurt Auto Show, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche pledged that Mercedes will soon offer hybrid versions of almost every model in its lineup including the C- and E-Class. In 2009, we should expect the introduction of the brand’s first hybrids – the S400 and ML450 models. Continued after the jump!

Rumor: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster coming to Geneva

2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG RoadsterAs you may know already Mercedes-Benz is currently working on the convertible version of the upcoming SLS AMG supercar which will hit the streets as a 2011 model. According to the altest reports, the new 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster will make its official debut next year at the Geneva Motor Show while deliveries will start by the end of the year.

Regarding the technical details, the new car will carry the same 6.3-liter V8 engine which will be used also on the coupe version, capable to deliver 571 hp and a maximum 650 Nm of torque @ 4750 rpm transmitted via the dual-clutch gearbox to the rear axle. The only modification of the new car comparing it to the coupe, is that the convertible will lose the impressive “gullwing” doors in favor of normal doors. Te canvas-made roof will transform the coupe into a convertible in less than 20 seconds. More details to be revealed!
