Honda Motor Company lately announced a new president and CEO in the person of Takanobu Ito, a Senior Managing Director for the company, who will be replacing the present president Takeo Fukui this coming June. The replacement process will begin this April when Ito will take over the reins of Honda's R&D department. Fukui said that the reason for Honda's move is an attempt by Honda to streamline its decision making at a time when speedy reactions are critical to the survival of the company. Honda predicts that the next two years will be very difficult times calling for such a drastic move. Fukui will remain with the company in an advisory position. It was in 1978 when Ito first joined Honda's R&D and had a hand in creating the Acura NSX, a mid-engined sports car. Ito finds Honda as a 'fun company' and he hopes that the company's customers will find their products fun and enjoyable too.
