Taxis in Tokyo to test new technology

Have you been thinking of getting an electric car but didn’t want the hassle of waiting around while a battery is recharged? Well, get that off your cons list as testing is currently ongoing in Tokyo for an electric car battery pack that could be switched in about one minute.
The tests will initially be done on four taxis to take part in the trial of the new technology, according to the charging system's makers, Better Place. The vehicles, which are operated by Tokyo's largest taxi operator Nihon Kotsu, will run from the Roppongi Hills shopping and office complex in the Japanese capital from January next year, as part of a trial commissioned by the government. The system is simple; the depleted battery is removed from the underside of the vehicle and replaced with another one. Better Place, launched in 2007 by entrepreneur Shai Agassi, is also teaming up with companies or governments in Israel, Denmark, Australia, the United States and Canada to promote the use of electric vehicles.
