Tesla Motors announced today that its Tesla Roadster has recently been approved for the Japanese government's Clean Energy Cash Rebate Program. This means that each person who will buy a Tesla Roadster electric car will receive a rebate of up to 3.24 million yen, approximately $38,000 US at current exchange rates. The Clean Energy Cash Rebate Program wants to promote the accelerated adoption of electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids, and the Tesla Roadster is the second standard-sized car, following the plug-in Prius by Toyota.
The handmade, carbon fiber Tesla Roadster can deliver supercar performance with zero tailpipe emissions. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than four seconds, which means is faster than most of the current sports cars on the market, yet consuming no petrol.
Also, it has a total range of over 394 kilometers on a single charge, and it is the only sports car in the world which can be charged with solar, hydro or wind energy. Tesla made its debut in Japan earlier this year in May, and already begun deliveries of Signature Series Roadsters to pioneer customers.
The base model Roadster starts at 12.8 million yen ($152,400), including tax but before the Cash Rebate.
