Three Ford Fiesta ECOnetic to compete in the Monte-Carlo Rally

The Monte-Carlo Rally for Alternative Energy Vehicles, now in its third successive year, accepts only the most groundbreaking eco-friendly vehicles. In the category for fossil-fuel-propelled vehicles with CO2 emissions rating less than 120g/km, Ford entered the Fiesta ECOnetic. It comes with an emission rate of just 98g/km and 3.7-liter/100km (mixed cycle) fuel consumption. With numbers like these, the Fiesta ECOnetics is set to perform strongly in the forward-looking race. The Monte-Carlo Rally for AEVs is just the first phase in the FIA Alternative Energies Cup, which is devoted to this type of ride. The category in which the Ford Fiesta entered into is composed of 28 cars from 9 different carmakers. Although the Ford Fiesta has the lowest emissions number in the class, it can still manage 90bhp and an acceleration rate from 0-100km/h in just 12.3 seconds with a maximum speed attained on track at 178km/h.
This remarkable efficiency demonstrates the extend of Ford's research and development programs for eco-friendly vehicles. Drive Classic, a Paris-based private team, is the banner under which the Ford Fiesta has entered this new kind of competition. A couple of Fiestas will be given to the experienced team members of Alain Jongerlynck, "Greg" (2nd in 2008) and Pascal Aimé – Stéphanie Aimé (3rd and winner of the overall regularity standings). A journalist from Automobile Magazine, Gaël Briançeau, will be behind the wheel of a third Fiesta.
The 3rd Monte-Carlo Rally for Alternative Energy Vehicles will start on March 27, Friday. The first challenge will be a Concentration stage that starts at the same time from two different cities, namely: Lugano and Clermont-Ferrand. The Rally will end at the Monaco harborside on March 29, Sunday.
