Mercedes-Benz Concept BlueZero

There are three "Concept BlueZero" vehicles that Mercedes-Benz is bringing to the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009 and each features the car manufacturer's intention for future low- or no-emissions driving. The BlueZero E-Cell is the original concept which is an all-electric compact 5-door that comes with lithium ion batteries that can offer a hypothetical reach of 100 km (62 miles) on just one two-hour charge. The two other ideas consist of the BlueZero F-Cell, a hydrogen fuel-cell car, and the BlueZero E-Plus, which employs the turbocharged three-cylinder unit of Smart ForTwo to power a lithium ion battery pack creating an extended range electric vehicle or EREV, similar to the Chevrolet Volt, that can reach 600 km (373 miles). The design language demonstrated on the E-Cell is a good sign of what the following generation of Mercedes A- and B-class conveyances will appear like when they come in 2011.
