2011 Chevrolet Cruze

On Sept. 7, the ads for the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze that mark Tim Allen’s first gig with General Motors Co. will start airing. GM selected the Hollywood comedy actor to become its on-screen voice for the brand. GM’s press release mentioned that Allen owns an impressive garage that includes a 1996 Chevrolet LT5 Impala SS and a 2000 Cadillac DeVille DTS, which he designed himself. Incidentally, Allen hails from the Detroit area, which is where Chevrolet is based. Joel Ewanick, vice president, US marketing, GM, said that Tim Allen brings the “right combination of a recognizable voice with the credibility, likeability and humor that will connect with viewers.”

Ewanick added that Allen is a “perfect match” for the Chevrolet brand because of “his passion for all things cars.” The Cruze will be launched in the US this week but it has already been offered in other countries where it has been very successful. Chevrolet is hoping that the Cruze’s reliability and conservative appearance will attract customers.

Since the model was introduced in spring 2009, it has sold about 270,000 units. In the US, the LS model (10 airbags, StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover sensing, traction control and anti-lock brakes) is priced from $16,995. The Eco version starts at $18,895 while the top-of-the-range LTZ starts at $22,695. This version features leather seating surfaces, cruise control, Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB port with audio interface, ultrasonic rear-parking assist, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
