Speculations of a resurrection of the roadster segment, with special emphasis on the Porsche 914 and 356, came about due to the appearance of the Bluesport Concept at the Detroit Motor Show last January. Those talks were laid to rest last month when they put a stopper to the rebirth of the Porsche, leading to fears that the same might happen to the planned Bluesport Concept production model. VW is doing a careful calculation on how they could earn with a niche car since the current crisis is a challenge in coming up with enough volume to provide the company a profit. In spite of the bad news the German carmaker once more gave hope at the production of the roadster at an exclusive public showcasing of the concept. VW says that a new mid-engined platform intended for the Bluesport could permit a production variant to go on sale for $30,000. Not just a sporty two-passenger car, but also truly eco-friendly. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel, it can generate about 180hp (134kW) and a top torque of 260lb-ft (352Nm), helping the car accelerated from standstill to 60mph in just 6.2 seconds, and it only consumes fuel at 35mpg combined.
