Daihatsu revealed today a new eco-car, dubbed e:S, which previews the future role of mini vehicles. The new e:S, which will be officially presented at this year's Tokyo Motor Show, is based on a current platform with the wheelbase shortened to 2,175mm but this doesn't stop it to accommodate four adult passengers. The use of slim, lightweight seats and the replacement of many materials with lighter versions limits give the car a total weight of 700 kg, which is great for a small city car. Under the hood we find a conventional mini vehicle engine fitted with a combustion control system developed by Daihatsu and an EGR but also with the acclaimed Idling Stop System. This gives the vehicle the possibility to achieve a fuel efficiency of 30km/liter or 3.33 liters for 100 km (fuel efficiency under the 10-15 Japanese test cycle; measurements made by Daihatsu) without using an electric motor or other systems.
