Toyota evaluating possible brake problems in Lexus HS

After the massive recall due to unintended acceleration issues, Toyota received complaints about braking problems in the Prius hybrid. In order to keep its image clean the Japanese manufacturer is evaluating whether similar glitches also need fixing in the Lexus HS hybrid as well as on the Toyota Sai, which is a reskinned version of the HS. "They have very similar braking systems and we are currently checking whether they have the same problem," Takeuchi said Monday in Japan. "Nothing has been decided." Lexus HS, went on sale last year in the United States and Japan, and is the first dedicated hybrid from the luxury car manufacturer. Toyota sold 6,699 units of the Lexus HS in the United States last year but the Prius overtook its success with 139,682 units. Lexus HS received only 10 complaints about slipping brakes, a small number comparing it to the more than 800 complaints targeting the braking system in the 2010 Prius. [via autonews]
