Toyota didn’t do so well in 2010 as it had to endure the recall crisis but in 2011, the carmaker predicts that it will outperform the U.S. auto market. Toyota executives told analysts last Monday that the overall market is expected to expand to 12.5 million cars and light trucks in 2011. The carmaker also expects that the U.S. sales figures will show the increase of light vehicle sales to around 11.5 million in 2010 compared to 10.4 million in 2009.
Toyota also confirmed that it expects its sales growth in 2011 to have a faster pace than the overall market and this will be driven up by the rollout of 10 new or updated models under the Toyota, Scion and Lexus brands.
From January to November of 2010, Toyota's sales were flat and its U.S. market share decreased as the automaker recalled over 6.7 million vehicles. Toyota is optimistic with the U.S. market's medium-term prospects and expects that annual sales will go as high as 15 million by 2015 and come close to the levels before the crisis downturn. Toyota hopes that sales will increase due to pent-up demand and an increasing American population. [via Detroit News]
