Toyota launches global recall today of 437,000 hybrid vehicles

The weight of the braking complaints has resulted to Toyota Motor Corp.‚ launching of a global recall of 437,000 hybrid vehicles, including the Prius hybrid.
The recall, which involves Toyota and Lexus brand cars in North America and three other continents, came about as a result of complaints about the car‚ brakes momentarily slipping or giving way. If you had been keeping track of the news lately, Toyota‚ woes are far more extensive. There have been a series of international recalls totaling 8.1 million vehicles since last October. However, this latest recall is tragic because the targets are the gasoline-electric hybrids that have made Toyota extremely popular for being environmentally friendly. Continued after the jump!
At a press conference to announce the latest recall, President Akio Toyoda, grandson of the company's founder, said that he would like to assure everyone that the company will “redouble [its] commitment to quality as [its] lifeline.”
Toyoda also apologized for causing trouble and concern for many customers over “the quality and safety of Toyota vehicles." The third-generation 2010 Prius, which went on sale last year in the US, accounts for 397,000 of the cars recalled globally.
Of that number, 139,000 are in North America and 223,000 are in Japan. The other models affected by this recall are the Plug-in Prius, the Lexus HS250h and the Toyota Sai, a reskinned version of the Lexus HS sold under the Toyota badge only in Japan. The Prius is the best-selling car in Japan.
