Toyota must be bumping its head against the wall for being faced with another recall only a week after its largest US recall ever. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an investigation is ongoing for the frame corrosion on 2000 and 2001 model year Tundra pickups. Involved in the recall are about 218,000 units. NHTSA has gotten 20 complaints, 15 of which allege that the underbody-mounted spare tire separated from the rear cross member, says Automotive News. The other five complaints cite damaged brake lines due to corrosion on the driver's side rear cross member. Brian Lyons, a spokesman for Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., said that they´ve known about the NHTSA investigation for quite some time. He said that the company has even repurchased some vehicles to aid in its own investigation. The latest recall follows Toyota announcement that it will recall 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles to replace a floor mat that could cause the accelerator to stick. As a result, Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda was prompted to give a public apology.
