Toyota planning to end production at NUMMI plant by March
No confirmation has been made but all evidence is pointing to the closure of Toyota’s production at the NUMMI plant in California in March 2010 after more than 25 years in operation.
A spokesperson for Toyota has asserted that a final decision has yet to be made but already, suppliers have been notified of plans to close the assembly line early next year. General Motors’ only current contribution to the plant in California is the Pontiac Vibe, which officially ends production this month. Production of the Tacoma pickup is reportedly being transferred to its plant in San Antonio, Texas, and final assembly of the Corolla will join the Matrix in Ontario, Canada, and a factory in Japan.
