As Toyota Motor Corp. recovers from the natural disasters in Japan and Thailand, it is predicting that its global sales will increase by 21% in 2012. In an e-mailed statement, Toyota said that its sales (which include those of Hino Motors and Daihatsu Motor) are expected to increase to 9.58 million vehicles in this year after having dropped by 6% to 7.95 million in 2011. Toyota is hoping to recapture the market share it lost as it was outperformed by General Motors and Volkswagen last year in terms of sales. VW Group posted sales of 8.16 million units in 2011, falling behind GM with 9.03 million. Toyota wants its sales to continue growing with the aid of models like the Camry midsize sedan and a smaller version of the Prius hybrid. Toyota said that Daihatsu sales are expected to go up by 17% to 850,000 units, while Hino’s deliveries are likely to increase by 23% to 150,000 vehicles. [source: Nasdaq]
