For the first half of 2010, Toyota has several models that it plans to launch in Europe. However, with the heat that it has been getting due to the massive recalls. Toyota has said that it is willing to delay their launch if it cannot be completely satisfied with quality and safety standards. These vehicles -- which include the upcoming Auris, Auris HSD and RAV4 models will undergo stringent quality testing. Toyota's strict new quality control guidelines were introduced amid the crisis due to recalls from sticking accelerator pedals.
In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, Tadashi Arashima, the chief executive of Toyota Motor Europe, asserted that the new models have absolutely no defects. In particular, Arashima said that he wants to see British-built Auris HSD launched "properly," saying that it's a key car for the carmaker. Arashima added that they have discussed that if required, the launch timing could be postponed. He cited the hybrid in late May [Auris HSD], which "is really key."
Toyota confirmed that development is on track and there are no plans to postpone any new launches. Toyota has appointed a chief quality officer for each of its sales regions. The first meeting of these officers is set on March 30. They report directly to Toyota boss Akio Toyoda. Toyota also plans to fit an aeroplane-style black box recorder on its cars to record any malfunctions. Its cars will also soon have a brake override system, which will cut engine power when the accelerator and brake pedals are applied at the same time.
