Toyota Prius Coupe: new details revealed

Unconfirmed reports have been proliferating about specifications of Toyota's hybrid sports coupe, which is believed to be based on the Prius. Our source says that the future model, which will be put against Honda's CR-Z, will have numerous parts currently offered on the Toyota Prius. However, the new car will have its length reduced by 100mm. The most likely type of engine that will find its way under the hood of the new model is the 1.8-liter powerplant with Hybrid Synergy Drive, which will be tweaked to get a maximum output of 136 PS, 37 PS over the current standard power. Bigger power means it will have increased fuel consumption but Toyota intends it to remain as one of the greenest sports cars on the market. It will also be likely to have a 2-door architecture. Its interior will be similar to the Prius as well. The most obvious difference would be with the exterior, which will have a sportier and more aggressive stance compared to the Prius. Expect the coupe to go on sale in 2010 at a price that's slightly higher than the Prius.
