Last month, Toyota reached the milestone of having produced more than 200 million vehicles worldwide and it only took 76 years and 11 months. Toyota had sold a total of 145.21 million vehicles in Japan and 55.12 million cars in export markets. Last year, Toyota sold 1,644,660 units in the U.S. For the first six months of this year, it has shipped 1,046,096 cars. Since the production in North American began in 1984, the total has reached about 25 million. The Model G1 is the first car that Toyota has built. The Toyoda Automatic Looms Works’ automotive department assembly line made it in 1935. In making this announcement, Toyota president Akio Toyoda prepared a message. He expressed his “heartfelt appreciation” to customers across the globe who have helped it reach this milestone. He said that he has the deepest respect and he thanked the people who have developed, manufactured, and marketed Toyota and Lexus vehicles. He pointed out that it comes as no surprise that the Toyota Corolla is the most-built nameplate within the brand. In 1966, the first Corolla was sold. In 2011, Toyota sold 240,259 Corollas in the U.S., Toyota’s No. 2 best-seller in the country. The 1957 Toyopet Crown was Toyota’s first car in the U.S.
