Toyota Racing is participating at the FIA World Endurance Championship this season! The team originally planned only to enter selected races, a few contests short of becoming a full-entrant. Toyota Racing, however, modified its plans following changes faced by the championship. Within the past few weeks, the circumstances for the championship suddenly changed and Toyota Racing believes that it’s crucial to work together with the FIA and ACO to have “a successful future for endurance racing,” Yoshiaki Kinoshita, Toyota Racing president said.
The team is expected to field its Toyota TS030 Hybrid on the car’s debut race at the Six Hours of Spa Francorchamps on May 5. The team will also field two cars at the Le Mans 24 Hours scheduled on June 16-17, 2012.
Toyota Racing confirmed that one of the TS030 Hybrid racers will be driven by Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazui Nakajima. The team has yet to disclose the driver lineup for the second car. “We have done everything we can to show our support and we look forward to an exciting season, including the opportunity to race two cars at Le Mans,” Kinoshita remarked.
