Toyota should not be forgotten but Hyundai is a very serious rival, says Volkswagen

It's not a secret anymore that Volkswagen wants to become the world's biggest automaker and to topple Toyota from its No. 1 spot. But it appears that things changed a little and a new rival appeared in the spotlight: Hyundai-Kia group is seen as a bigger rival than the struggling Japanese company. In a recent interview VW CEO Martin Winterkorn admitted the fact that Hyundai learned how to build good cars and due to this fact, the Korean manufacturer has enjoyed enormous growth in sales and profitability in recent years. In North America for example, Hyundai boosted its sales with innovative sales methods and the recently launched Sonata is doing well in the United States against Toyota's Camry and Honda's Accord. European sales were increased due to some help received from government scrappage incentives, which made consumers buy small cars such as the Hyundai i10. Apparently Hyundai still has a small problem: they don´t have a brand image and are not established as a respectable brand. But things will be solved, right?
