The six-cylinder version of BMW’s 6-series Gran Coupe is offered with a price tag of $76,895 (inclusive of shipping charges). BMW of North America will start selling this model this summer. Its global debut will be this March at the Geneva Motor Show while it will be seen at the New York auto show this April. Powering the 2013 640i Gran Coupe is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder that has a rating of around 315 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. Later this year, BMW will introduce the 650i Gran Coupe, which comes with a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that delivers around 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.
In addition, BMW will present an xDrive all-wheel-drive version of the 650i Gran Coupe. The pricing details for this model will be revealed at a later date. The Gran Coupe is a four-door version of the 6-series coupe but is a bit longer. Its revisions compared to the two-door 6-series consist of a longer roof structure, shorter front doors, bigger B-pillars and the use of front-hinged rear doors. However, all four doors are frameless in order to maintain its coupelike style. The 6-series Gran Coupe is 197.1 inches long, 74.6 inches wide, and 54.8 inches tall. This means that compared to the 6-series coupe, it has the same width but it is 4.4 inches longer, and is higher by slightly more an inch.
But even if it is linked stylistically to BMW's upmarket two-door models, it is built on an altered platform that has a 4.5-inch longer wheelbase at 116.9 inches – making it nearly the same as the 5-series sedan. The interior boasts ample seating for four adults by utilizing its added length and height. Its rear seat offers a third three-point belt to accommodate as many as five occupants. BMW refers to this layout as 4+1. Visibility is improved as its front and rear seats are mounted a bit higher than in the 6-series coupe and convertible. Its trunk space measures 16.2 cubic feet or about 2.1 cubic feet smaller than in the 5-series sedan.
