At the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, visitors always expect to see amazing one-offs and limited versions of various carmakers’ production models. For this year's event, Toyota unveiled the Tacoma X-Runner RTR, where RTR stands for Ready to Race. Toyota made major modifications to the pickup’s powertrain and undercarriage, making it virtually unrecognizable. The vehicle, which is powered by an i-Force 5.7l V8 engine, is able to deliver 504 hp and 550 lb.-ft of torque due to a TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Supercharger Kit.
The unit is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and TRD mechanical limited slip differential. The height of the pickup has been lowered 4.5 inches from stock X-Runner height. It features 15-inch styled steel wheels at the front (covered in Goodyear Eagle Front Runners) and 10-inches at the rear (wrapped in Goodyear Eagle Dragway Specials).
The Tacoma’s exterior is largely unchanged, except for its lowered ride, the paint scheme and some graphics. The interior received fine touches, including “504 HP” graphics and TRD logos. Since the vehicle had to drop the weight, several items were removed, including the audio head unit, speakers, air conditioner, power windows, front fog lamps, windshield water bottle, and rear seats.
