Toyota released today the first photos with the Yaris Hybrid, its most advanced Yaris yet. Set to make its official debut in March at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the new Yaris Hybrid follows the launch of Auris Hybrid as the second core Toyota model to feature hybrid technology. The new model is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine combined with an electric motor, transaxle, inverter and battery pack.
According to the manufacturer, the system is 20 percent lighter than the one used in the Auris Hybrid. The highly efficienct 98bhp (74kW) powertrain promises to deliver a segment-leading balance of performance and CO2 emissions. Just like any other Toyota hybrid vehicle, the Yaris Hybrid will offer three driving modes and one of the will make the Yaris act as an electric car. Moreover, the automatic air conditioning and e-CVT automatic transmission are fitted as standard, signalling that customers do not have to compromise on comfort in order to achieve low emissions performance.
“Yaris is Toyota’s best-selling car in Europe and there are more examples on the road than any other from the company’s present and past model ranges. Yaris Hybrid follows the launch of Auris Hybrid in 2010 as the second core Toyota model to feature full hybrid technology, introducing the powertrain to the largest volume segment in the European market.” said the press release.
