In an interview with Akio Toyoda, future Toyota president, at the Tokyo Auto Salon, he revealed two important things concerning the Toyota/Subaru Sports FR sports car. First, the codename of the project vehicle is "086A." This confirms that the FR is a next-generation offshoot of the iconic Toyota Corolla GTS. The second point made by Toyoda concerns the production delay for the "086A," which was originally scheduled for 2011 and is now reset for 2012. This is due to the delay in paring Toyota's D-4S direct injection technology with Subaru's flat-4 boxer powerplant and not due to the cancellation of a dedicated production plant for the new sports car as previously thought. The new production schedule is March 2012 and the price tag is still 2 million Yen ($21,375) as initially announced.
