The AC Schnitzer "ACS1 2.3d Coupé" Tune It Safe! police concept is the fifth concept car in as many years to arrive from the Association of German Car Tuners (VDAT). Under VDAT's "TUNE IT! SAFE!" initiative, the battlecry is: "Only serious, safe tuning will bring the hoped-for driving pleasure!"
With most of the vehicle accessory equipment supplied by AC Schnitzer, the police concept aims to show that safe tuning does not necessarily mean dull work. After all, the ACS1 2.3d Coupé features an upgraded 2.3 D engine that now develops up to 241 HP (177 kW) of output and a 480 Nm torque matched to a six-speed automatic transmission, allowing the police concept to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds.
Derived from the BMW 123d Coupé are AC Schnitzer Type IV BiColor wheels wrapped in tires from Hankook, the main sponsor of the TUNE IT! SAFE! initiative. AC Schnitzer also provided the 30mm lowered sports suspension to make sure that the police concept features a low, safe road position. Moreover, the AC Schnitzer "ACS1 2.3d Coupé" Tune It Safe! police concept has a body styling kit that includes a two-piece front spoiler, rear wing, rear roof spoiler and rear skirt insert.
The police concept also features "LEDayFlex" modern daytime running lights from Hella and "New Generation" sports mirrors from AC Schnitzer. To allow police officers to comfortably feel the thrill of pursuing suspects on the road, the ACS1 2.3d Coupé comes with leather racing bucket seats with AC Schnitzer logo. Its steering wheel, door handles, dashboard and center console are treated to silver genuine carbon fiber trim, complementing the aluminum pedals and aluminum foot rests.
ACS1 2.3d Coupé also comes with a G-force indicator that measures and displays the centrifugal forces inside the police concept car. Providing the "real" police car appearance are original stickers from Foliatec and flashing lights from Hella the flashing lights. While the police could and would want to pilot the ACS1 2.3d Coupé, they wouldn't be given the chance to, since the concept car would not be put into use and would not be made in the current complex.
But still, the ACS1 2.3d Coupé helps VDAT achieve the goal of the "TUNE IT! SAFE!" initiative, which is to fight against illegal and unsafe tuning as well as counterfeiting. For those who wanted to take a good look at the ACS1 2.3d Coupé, they can do so by visiting VDAT Stand No. 406 in Hall 10 at the Essen Motor Show from November 28 to December 6, 2009.
Rainer Vogel, Managing Director of AC Schnitzer, remarked that serious and safe tuning is both the company's philosophy and mission.” He noted that safe tuning with components from a reputable manufacturer does not only provide driving pleasure, but it also saves lives. VDAT's TUNE IT! SAFE!" initiative is supported by the Police and the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Road Development. AC Schnitzer is a member of VDAT.
