2011 Citroen DS3 by Superchips

Article by Christian Andrei, on September 28, 2011

Superchips Ltd. has created a tuning package for Citroën’s special edition 204 bhp DS3 Racing. The electronic tuning experts worked to boost the model’s performance even more. The DS3 Racing gets an ECU remap that significantly enhances the performance so that those who drive Citroën’s current flagship model get the best experience.

Superchips’ engineers studied the DS3 Racing’s Bosch MED 17 ECU and did some intense dyno and real world road testing so that the Superchips remap improves the performance but doesn’t lessen its reliability.

After Superchips conducted an in-house dyno testing of the Citroën DS3 Racing, it found that the ECU conversion delivers a maximum power increase of 26 bhp at 6312 rpm. The Superchips upgrade raises the rev range of the DS3 Racing’s 1.6-litre, direct injection, twin-scroll turbocharged engine, from 2000 rpm to the 6750 rpm limiter.

Superchips also worked on the DS3 Racing’s EP6CDTX engine to improve the low speed and mid–range performance. Superchips was able to improve the throttle response. Its torque also got a boost from 2000 – 6750 rpm, resulting to a peak gain of 46 Nm at only 3130 rpm.

Superchips claims that the ECU upgrade makes driving the Citroën DS3 Racing on the road much more exciting. When equipped with better gear acceleration, the car is more dynamic and vigorous.

While no performance figures have been recorded yet, it’s believed that the Superchips upgraded Citroën DS3 Racing will exceed the quoted 0-60mph acceleration time of 6.5 seconds and top speed of 149 mph. But then, the extra performance offered by the Superchips upgrade doesn’t compromise the Citroën DS3 Racing’s 42 mpg combined fuel economy.

Citroën has long been celebrated to have an ingenious talent when it comes to vehicle designs that can be considered as innovative. This fact is clear in almost all features of its latest offering, the DS3. No matter where it is viewed, the on-road presence of the DS3 is truly undeniable. That it has an invigorating style is exhibited by the various elements that stand out like the floating roof with the color contrast and the B-pillar shaped like a shark fin. Add to that the fact that its LED lights on the front have been designed to be as sleek as possible.

All of these are qualities that one can only see on more premium models. Indeed, the DS3 has been designed to meet even the most stringent requirements from the most demanding of customers. The DS3 is able to do this because it has a wide range of style and customization. It also makes use of quality materials in order to have that refined and bespoke driving experience. Even with all of these, the DS3 is also equipped with the latest technology that the company can offer like the environment-friendly and fuel-efficient engines.

When it comes to customization, the DS3 offers customers true freedom of expression be it for the exterior or the interior. For the exterior, it has a unique “floating” roof that is available in the same color as the body or in four other colors, which are Black, Blue, Red, and White. These provide a contrast with the body color. The rubbing strips and the wing mirrors can also be personalized in either having colors or a chrome finish.

Meanwhile for the wheels and the wheel centers, the company will be offering a wide array of colors. Its interior on the other hand displays a modern elegance with a touch of class. Furthermore, extraordinary attention was given to the detail with luxury materials utilized like chrome and leather. The dashboard has a flowing appearance; the upper part of which reflects the floating roof. All around the interior, soft grain and organic material are used as well with many of the components thermo-coated.

Contrasting this is the strip, which comes with a lacquered and smooth effect, and goes across the entire width of the dashboard, which is from the side of the driver to the side of the passenger. Personalization is present in the interior as well especially with the dashboard strip by having a selection of six finishes.

The dashboard strip is composed of the instrument cluster, air vents, and the multi-function screens. It even has a scented air freshener. Indeed, with its visually appealing design and the excellent styling, the DS3 brings to the segment a breath of fresh as it offers a radical interpretation of a compact urban vehicle.

Press Release

Citroën’s special edition 204 bhp DS3 Racing has been causing waves in the hot hatch market, but now the electronic tuning experts at Superchips Ltd can enhance the car’s performance even further!

Available now, the Buckingham based concern is delighted to unveil a performance boosting ECU remap for the DS3 Racing, designed to deliver the ultimate driving experience to fans of Citroën’s current flagship model.

The culmination of forensic analysis by Superchips’ engineers of the DS3 Racing’s Bosch MED 17 ECU in conjunction with in depth dyno and real world road testing, the Superchips remap safely delivers significantly enhanced performance without compromising reliability.

In-house dyno testing of the Citroën DS3 Racing by Superchips reveals that the ECU conversion produces a maximum power gain of 26 bhp at 6312 rpm. Pleasingly, the Superchips upgrade realises performance increases throughout the rev range from the DS3 Racing’s 1.6-litre, direct injection, twin-scroll turbocharged engine, from 2000 rpm right to the 6750 rpm limiter.

Superchips has also placed great emphasis on improving the low speed and mid –range performance of the DS3 Racing’s EP6CDTX engine. Throttle response is noticeably improved, while torque increases from 2000 – 6750 rpm, culminating in an impressive peak gain of 46 Nm at just 3130 rpm.

On the road the Superchips performance ECU upgrade adds additional excitement to the already vivid Citroën DS3 Racing driving experience. The car feels more eager, crisper and livelier, with significantly enhanced in gear acceleration. No performance figures have yet been recorded, but it’s expected that the Superchips upgraded Citroën DS3 Racing will eclipse the quoted 6.5 seconds 0-60 mph time and 149 mph top speed.

However, the additional performance delivered by the Superchips upgrade doesn’t come at the expense of the Citroën DS3 Racing’s 42 mpg combined fuel economy, so despite of the noticeable performance increase produced by the Superchips ECU remap, if a Superchips equipped Citroën DS3 Racing is driven in a ‘like for like’ manner, fuel consumption will not be negatively affected.

The Superchips Citroën DS3 Racing upgrade requires installation at one of approximately 80 Superchips performance centres and is covered by a full Customer Service Guarantee and an industry-leading 12 month / 30,000 supplementary full vehicle warranty.*

Suitable for all Citroën DS3 Racing models produced from January 2011 onwards, the Superchips ECU remap is available now directly from Superchips and its UK dealer network, priced at £455.00, including VAT @ 20%.
