A new modified version of the latest 2011 Ford Mustang GT was launched on April 17 to celebrate the 46th anniversary of the Ford Mustang. This car is made by SMS Supercars, Steve Saleen's post-Saleen Inc. venture.
This latest product, dubbed the 2011 SMS 302 Mustang, is included in the SMS Signature Series range of cars. Last spring, the 2010 SMS 570 Challenger was successfully launched. The 2011 SMS 302 Mustang is the second in the trio of SMS Supercars products and it will be followed by the launching of the 2011 SMS 620 Camaro later this year.
Initially, two SMS 302 versions will be offered: the SMS 302 4V with a normally aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 engine, and this will be followed by the SMS 302 SC, which uses the SMS 296 Supercharger.
The SMS 302 4V features the all-new normally aspirated twin overhead cam 5.0-liter V8 engine with more than 440hp and 400 pound-feet of torque.
This is achieved through an all-new four-valve head design, a high flow exhaust system, an optimized pulley drive system, premium fuel calibration and performance filtration. Meanwhile, the SMS 302SC will produce over 535hp and 450 pound-feet of torque due to the use of a custom supercharger and intercooler system.
Consumers will also get to choose from a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. The 2011 SMS 302 4V can accelerate from a standstill to 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds and get to the quarter mile point in 13.5 seconds at a speed of 116 mph.
The SMS 302SC can get to 60mph in 4.3 seconds and on to a quarter mile in 12.1 seconds at 119 mph. Both SMS 302 models offered the following as standard features: a new performance suspension system, Pirelli PZero tires covering 20 inch wheels, cross-drilled brakes and a custom bodykit. For even more power, SMS Supercars is working a version called the SMS 351X.
