2012 Hennessey VelociRaptor APV: official details, photos and specs

Article by Christian Andrei, on September 9, 2010

If you don’t like the 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor which was unveiled a week ago and need to feel safer in an armored vehicle, Hennessey has the solution and introduced today the Hennessey Armored Performance Vehicles (APV).

This new programme will apply the company’s philosophy and will improve the acceleration, braking and handling performance on late-model armored vehicles.

What you see in the photos is the 2012 Hennessey VelociRaptor APV based on the new Ford Raptor SuperCrew. This car offers a combination of armor protection, vehicle performance, passenger comfort and safety.

It is powered by the same supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine found on the standard version. Now don’t think the engine remained untouched because you are wrong!

Hennessey boosted the V8 powerplant to an impressive 575 hp (standard version delivers 411 hp). Furthermore, the VelociRaptor SUV will offer seating options for six, seven or eight seats as well as other electronic upgrades such as Satellite TV, high-speed internet, entertainment systems and mobile office systems.

And now, listen to these numbers! Hennessey can boost the engines found on these armored cars: Cadillac Escalade (receives between 500 and 1000 hp), Chevrolet Suburban (500 and 1000 hp), Chevrolet Truck (500 and 1000 hp), Ford Raptor Truck (450 to 800 hp), GMC Denali ( 500 to 1000 hp), Jeep (up to 800 hp), Land Rover (up to 550 hp), Lexus LX570 (up to 500 hp), Nissan Patrol (up to 1000 hp), Range Rover (up to 550 hp), Toyota Sequoia (up to 650 hp) and Toyota Land Cruiser (up to 650 hp).

Hennessey Armoured Performance Vehicles is a company that specialises in adding armoured protection to SUVs such as Cadillacs and the Chevy Suburbans. The company is bringing its 20 years of armoured protection experience to create a new driving experience.

When you make such adaptations, it is easy to add 6,000 lbs to 10,000 lbs to the overall weight of a vehicle. This poses a challenge as the designers have to ensure that the vehicle does not lose performance and become slow and heavy.

Taking their influence from the new Ford Raptor Super Crew, Hennessey has created the VelociRaptor APV and it has more body armour than an Armadillo! It manages to combine protection, performance and comfort in one impressive vehicle.

With a powerful 6.2L V8 engine, it can take on any challenge and has the torque and performance to match. It can adapt to on- and off-road conditions, taking on obstacles with ease. Hennessey manages to find the balance between comfort and protection as this heavily armoured vehicle is easy to drive.
