Article by Christian A., on October 5, 2013

Onyx Bespoke Automotive has introduced a new program for the Bentley Continental GTX with a V8 that gives it an output of 600bhp, enabling it to go from zero to 60mph in just 4.0 seconds. The vehicle has a 30mm wider wheel base as well as a full carbon and polycarbonate exterior styling package. Onyx’s upgrades are meant to offer a balance of power and styling.

The exterior of the Onyx GTX was subjected to extensive modifications to appeal to fans of sports coupes. It uses the most comprehensive and light weight products currently offered in the market. Onyx’s upgrades cover the front, rear & sides.

The vehicle has a wider track and its ride is lower by 10mm, offering sharper handling to match the additional power. Onyx provides multiple bespoke options, ensuring that there are many ways to personalize the car. Customers can ask for 22 inch flow forged wheels in various colors.

Complete carbon fiber options are also available. Its interior can be done to the exact preferences of the customer. Onyx Concepts bespoke interior department is slated to have this starlight headliner on its range for 2014.

Bentley revealed that the new twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine will be equipped in two models, namely the Continental GT and the Continental GTC. With this engine, these two models are able to achieve power-to-emissions figures that are outstanding especially for the high luxury sports car segment. The V8 engine is fitted with a number of advanced technologies like being able to recover energy through a charging system and a turbo charger packaging that ensures better efficiency.

This V8 engine also features thermal management, low friction bearings, and high pressure direct injection. With the highly advanced engine management system and the variable displacement, a seamless and almost indiscernible shift to V4 mode from a V8 mode is possible under a light throttle load. Maximum power delivered by the engine is at 373 kW (500 bhp/507 PS) and possible at 6,000 rpm.

Peak torque meanwhile is considered as exceptional considering that the 660 Nm (487 lb.-ft.) is available on a wide range from 1,700 rpm and up to 5,000 rpm. This ensures seamless power delivery and thrilling performance expected from a Bentley model. Add in the automatic 8-speed transmission that offers close ratio and this results in acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 60 mph) in barely 5 seconds.

Maximum speed meanwhile has been measured to be at 290 km/h (180 mph). In addition to the performance, the unique sound of the V8 engine makes the Continental GT and GTC distinct from the rest of the brand’s lineup. Through the V8 engine, excellent levels of fuel efficiency, as well as CO2 emissions, are guaranteed and rarely seen under the luxury performance segment.

On one full tank of fuel, the GT and GTC can travel at least 800 km (500 miles). While the official and full numbers are slated to be released during the early part of 2012, Bentley revealed with this new engine, the brand is able to meet its commitment to the environment, which is to create a new powertrain where fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions are improved by 40%. Even with the same engine, it is simple to differentiate the Continental GT and the Continental GTC from each other. Though both display

muscular and strong character, they can be separated through the center bar and gloss black matrix grille that has the chrome frame. Helping separate them as well are the Bentley 'B' badge in red enamel and the black three-segment matrix on the lower portion of the front bumper which are divided by the unique strakes in the same color as the body.
