BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo 4x4 Coupe based on Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 AMG Coupe

Brabus’ team of designers and engineers rose to the challenge of transforming this new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe into an SUV coupe that takes the top spot when it comes to performance. A turbocharged V8 engine sits under the hood of the new BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo 4x4 Coupe.

With a displacement of 6 liters, the engine has been rated at 625 kW / 850 HP (838 bhp) and 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft) of torque. What results is a powerful engine that can launch a car to 100 km/h or 62 mph in a span of just 3.8 seconds from a standstill.

This is also thanks to the SUV’s lightweight design, as the vehicle weighs slightly more than 2,350 kilograms (5,180 pounds). The electronic limiter on the engine, however, keeps the car at just 320 km per hour or 200 mph for its top speed.

While some could be disappointed by this, the limit is necessary in order to keep the strain on the tires within acceptable levels. The SUV is made of tailor-made components. Its aerodynamic components are made from lightweight, clear-coated carbon. It also has 23-inch king sized rims, which are also customized for the BRABUS.

Inside the car, one can find Alcantara and leather (which is available in various colors) adorning the interior upholstery of the car.

The GLE 63 also features the AIRMATIC air suspension system. Through a specialized control module, drivers can enhance the car’s aerodynamic profile by keeping the center of gravity closer to the ground. The system gives them the option of lowering the SUV’s ride height by roughly 35 millimeters or 1.4 inches.

Exterior Design

The SUV’s carbon construction is both functional and aesthetic. The vehicle features a prominent facial aesthetic thanks to the high-tech carbon front spoiler lip.

This also works to minimize the lift generated by the front axle when driving at high speeds. This keeps the car closer to the ground, ensuring stability in handling. The air deflectors on the front bumper enhance the sporty profile of the SUV, but it also works to redirect the air to the side-mounted air intakes.

A look at the rear bumper will reveal the side air outlets and the carbon trim developed specifically for the new SUV. The trim serves to emphasize the visuals of the new BRABUS high-performance exhaust system. The tailpipes bear the BRABUS logo, and occupy the space on the left and right of the diffuser.

The last piece in the SUV’s aerodynamic enhancements is the BRABUS roof spoiler. Buyers have plenty of options when it comes to the alloy wheels for the GLE 63. First, you can choose from sizes of 21, 22 and 23 inches. An exclusive BRABUS Monoblock “PLATINUM EDITION” king-sized 11x23 inches forged wheel is also available.

These wheels promise maximum strength but also excellent performance, thanks to the lightweight construction made possible by advanced manufacturing technology. As for tires, Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA high-performance tires are used for the GLE 63.

Interior Design

In addition to its engineering prowess, BRABUS is known for its excellent interior designing as well. Buyers and owners can find that they can customize the leather interiors for the BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo 4x4 Coupe. This is because BRABUS has an upholstery shop that can take your preferences and create tailor-made leather upholstery for you.

The company uses both the breathable BRABUS Mastik leather and the Alcantara in creating the leather upholstery. One can even choose the colors and finishes not only for the car’s leather upholstery, but for the carbon and wood trim as well. There is also a range of customized accessories that users can purchase for the cockpit.

These include aluminum door pins and pedals. They can also buy scuff plates with adaptive color capabilities. The color of the scuff plates change in response to ambient lighting in the environment.

The scuffplates are backlit with the company’s logo as well. BRABUS also offers the option of delivering the BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo 4x4 Coupe as a complete package. The package will include the SUV body style. As for the conversion of the GLE 63, users can pick between full conversion and doing it in phases.

Powertrain

On the other hand, the GLE 63 Coupe features a BRABUS 850 6.0 twin-turbo increased displacement engine.

The engine’s performance places the GLE 63 Coupe in a separate class of high-performance vehicle. The new engine has a displacement of 5,912 cc. This is an increase from the original 5,461 cc of the standard version of the 8-cyclinder engine. This was done by boring out the cylinders by 4 inches or 99 millimeters.

Afterwards, BRABUS fits in the larger pistons, which have been forged specifically for the enhanced displacement engine. Together with this come the longer piston rods, also customized, and a 96mm special billet crankshaft. Finally, BRABUS optimizes the cylinders of the V8 engine to achieve the ideal gas flow.

Opening the hood, one can marvel at the custom-designed BRABUS 850 intake module. This module was also customized to work with the increased-displacement V8 engine. Keeping up with the weight savings evident in the SUV’s construction, the new module is also made from carbon.

It also features a new air filter housing. The SUV takes coolant air from outside the hood and passes it through an integrated air duct under the hood into the air filter. The BRABUS 850 engine also works with tailor-made turbochargers with larger compressor units than the production turbo chargers in standard models.

The exhaust manifolds have also been modified. Finally, the engine also features “Gold Heat Reflection” insulation for the intake and charge air pipes. The insulation serves to keep the charge air temperature in the engine bay low. One can also find 75-millimeter down pipes working together with the revamped exhaust system for the customized GLE 63 Coupe.

The engine’s power delivery is further optimized by this setup, thanks to the synergy between the exhaust system’s metal catalysts and controlled butterfly valves. The exhaust system, which is made of stainless steel, also allows drivers to customize the exhaust sounds.

They can pick between a deep rumble in “sport mode” and a quieter sound when driving in “coming home” mode. The new BRABUS increased-displacement engine not only delivers the maximum output, but keeps emissions within the lower spectrum of acceptable levels.

Of course, it also boasts of durability. This was made possible by rigorous testing both on test rigs in the BRABUS testing facilities, and on open roads. The engineers have worked real hard to make sure that the SUV’s high-performance components deliver as promised.

BRABUS has extended a Tuning Warranty of three years or up to 100,000 kilometers for this model, whichever comes first. This translates to a range of 62,000 miles. For maintenance purposes, the recommended lubricants are those sold by MOTUL.

As a result of the engineers’ efforts, the increased-displacement engine gives out an amazing 850 HP, or 625 kilowatts of power. This is rounded out by a peak torque of 1,450 Nm, which is produced between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. The max power is produced at low rpm levels, roughly at 5,400 rpm.
