Any available upgrade to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is bound to generate a lot of excitement and this is no different. Lorinser is offering a new set of rims for the supercar. These three-piece forged rims use the RSK8 designation and the wheels feature a seven-spoke design and stainless steel bolts. Lorinser asserts that its latest products are currently the lightest in the market.
The aftermarket developer also stated that the reduced unsprung mass emphasizes the vehicle’s dynamic abilities, raising the thrill experienced by drivers whether on a straight road or on the bends.
The new wheels are sized 9.5x20-inch for the front axle and 11x21-inch for the rear one. Lorinser recommends that customers put in 275/30 tires at the front and 295/25 tires for the rear.
Mercedes-Benz’ newest super sports car, the SLS AMG, is the epitome of both technological advancement and glamour. The superb design made of advanced lightweight materials and exemplary drivability is very much evident. Importantly, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG also justifies Mercedes reputation for producing cars with the highest standards of safety as well as usability. Simply put, this gull-wing door super car combines the superior qualities of both Mercedes-Benz and AMG.
Mercedes-Benz and AMG’s collaboration has produced a supremely high tech sports car with a captivating design. Its body is built with aluminium spaceframe and features unique gullwing doors. The engine is a front-mid AMG 6.3-litre V8 with dry-sump lubrication that churns out up to 420 kW/571hp at 650 Nm torque. With its transmission system (seven-speed dual-clutch in transaxle configuration), aluminium double wishbone sports suspension and 1620 kg (DIN standard) kerb weight, this amazing automobile promises unparalleled driving delight.
With a low centre of gravity and perfect front/rear weight ratio of 47/53 percent, this car has everything it takes to be known as a super sports car. Nicknamed “Gullwing”, it takes a mere 3.8 seconds to go from 0-100 km/h, and its top speed has been accurately measured to be 317 km/h. Fuel efficiency is also notable, as this car goes up to 100 km on 13.2 litres, one of the best in its class.
“The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG… is bound to set the pulses of all car enthusiasts racing that extra bit faster,” asserts Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, during the car’s frenzied unveiling.
This collaboration of Mercedes-Benz and AMG is destined to be a timeless symbol for the sports car industry in the years to come.
Mercedes-AMG GmBH Chairman Volker Mornhinweg is convinced that the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG customers will see first-hand the unmatched excellence of both Mercedes and AMG, backed by more than 40 years of racing experience. He asserts that their implemented technological development “deliver[s] outstanding driving dynamics coupled with moderate fuel consumption figures – part and parcel of the modern-day AMG.”
The distinctive gullwing doors are not the only styling aspects that set apart the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Gordon Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz Cars says that their objective is to forge a new concept for what would be a future classic in the shape of an absolutely mesmerizing 21st century sports car.
“Our aim is also to create a new design icon, which shapes the incomparable legend of our brand, alongside Mercedes models like the CLS or SL.” Wagener further says that the SLS AMG will be one of the pioneers from which evolves a new design ideology that will serve as a template for future Mercedes-Benz sports cars.
Purism, distinction and passion
The unique, flashy design of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG allures with dashing dynamism that reimagines the exquisite lines of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. The overall aesthetic of the SLS AMG comes from purism and is an expression of modern sports car development and engineering philosophy, as illustrated by the barely two-metre bonnet, the greenhouse positioned low towards the rear, the extending aerofoil upon the short rear, the seemingly elongated wheelbase, the short overhangs, the wide stance and the big wheels.
These are all elements that visually express this super car’s high-speed and outstanding performance that emanates from its low-set, front-mid motor and dual-clutch transmission with transaxle configuration. However, the SLS AMG’s most distinguishing feature would be its gullwing doors, which give it a singular charm that is hard to match especially in its class.
