Roush introduces Stage 3 kit for 2012 Ford Mustang

Article by Christian Andrei, on April 15, 2011

The tuning experts at Roush have unveiled the Stake 3 kit, or the RS3 package, for the 2012 Ford Mustang. It has only been two months ago that the Stage 1 and Stage 2 kits were introduced but with the Stage 3, tuning has been brought to an extreme level.

The Stage 3 kit was specifically made for the 5.0-liter V8, which has now been fitted with an R2300 ‘ROUSHcharger’ supercharger that pumps up to 12 psi of boost.

The combination of this charger with a new induction system, high-flow exhaust and modified ECU gives a power boost of 540hp and 465 pound-feet (630 Nm) of torque. The package also includes an awesome graphics and appearance package.

With the front fascia blacked-out, the RS3 is shown in a form that could be described as classic but intimidating. But what’s at the rear decklid blackout is what makes this package a true standout – the imprinted signature of motorsports legend Jack Roush.

Another customization treat from Roush is the availability of up to 288 color and pinstriping combinations, which can all be adjusted through a recently launched online configurator.

Additional modifications include a set of 20-inch wheels, uprated brakes, Cooper RS3 tires, and a full Roush suspension kit that adds upgraded struts, shocks and springs. Roush offers these modifications with a three year/36,000 mile powertrain warranty.

Beyond the graphics and paint job offered by the Stage 3 kit, the choices for color move forward with the high performance brake calipers presented in two paint options. While the 4-piston 14-inch rotor system is painted in black, there will be the option to have it in ROUSH Red. Even the wheels will offer new color choices.

One can get the 20-inch Chrome Wheel or the 20-inch Hyper-Black. To look at all the available colors, graphic highlights, painted calipers, and even wheel options, just go ahead and visit the ROUSH Online Vehicle Configurator. It does not stop there as the RS3 has with it a number of body styling upgrades.

These include the ROUSH front fascia with the driving lights, side rocker splitters, and chin spoiler. At the rear portion, there are the deck-lid spoiler, rear valence, and the square exhaust tips with its new design.

For the inside, some of the improvements are the ROUSH illuminated sill plates and the ROUSH leather seats that have been decorated with the Stage 3 logo. Then there is the four-piece performance pedals and shifter ball that can come in either white or black. There is also the Stage 3 badge inside on which the serial number of the car has been engraved.

Press Release

2012 Stage 3 Mustang

ROUSH is proud to introduce the 540hp 2012 Stage 3 Mustang. The powertrain of this vehicle features the 5.0L 4-valve DOHC TiVCT engine further enhanced by the R2300 ROUSH supercharger, feeding 10psi of intercooled energy to the already robust Coyote engine. The ROUSHcharger increases the base horsepower from 412HP to an impressive 540HP. ROUSH stands behind this system with an impressive 3 year/36,000 mile full powertrain warranty.

Not only can you feel the power in your gut, but you can hear it with your ears. The innovative off-road ROUSH exhaust system featured with this vehicle explores the limit of how mean a car can sound, and given that the system has a unique hollow-chamber muffler design, the sound won't change over time like a conventional fiberglass packed exhaust would.

The performance of this behemoth doesn't stop with the engine. High-performance Cooper tires (2XS or utlra high performance RS3 tires) aid in acceleration, cornering, and safely bringing the car back down to zero MPH when necessary. The suspension system consists of finely tuned ROUSH front struts, rear shocks, front and rear springs, front and rear stabilizer bars, jounce bumpers, and anti-wheel hop kit.

A new feature of the 2012 ROUSH Stage 3 introduces is the color options package, allowing for personal customization of three different aesthetic elements of the car: 8 choices for the base vehicle color, 6 graphic colors, and 6 graphic accent colors. The result is an impressive 288 unique color combination possibilities. The ROUSH graphics used on the 2012 RS3 introduce metallic flaking into the automotive paint grade striping, providing a breathtakingly deep tone that looks more like custom paint that applied graphics.

Beyond the Stage 3’s paint and graphics, the color options continue with two paint options for the high performance brake calipers. The ever-popular ROUSH Red will continue to be a color option for the 4-piston, 14-inch rotor system, as will black painted cailpers of this system. The wheels of this vehicle also features new color options, with the all new 20-inch Hyper-Black or 20-inch Chrome Wheel selection. To check out all of these new paint colors, graphic accents, painted calipers and wheel options visit the new ROUSH Online Vehicle Configurator.

The RS3 comes fully-loaded with body styling upgrades, including the ROUSH front fascia with driving lights, chin spoiler, side rocker splitters, rear valence, rear deck-lid spoiler, and newly designed square exhaust tips. Interior enhancements include ROUSH leather seats with an embroidered Stage 3 logo, four-piece performance pedals, ROUSH illuminated sill plates, newly designed shifter ball in either black or white, and a new interior Stage 3 badge with the car's serial number engraved.
