Two-mode Chevrolet Equinox coming in 2011

Prior to the economic downturn, GM intended to release a two-mode hybrid Saturn Vue which was supposed to be followed by a plug-in hybrid variant. Although the development has been completed for both cars and production has already been set to commence in November of last year, the economic crisis forced GM to realign its plans. Of course, the biggest news is the purchase of Saturn by Penske, the owner of the second largest dealership in the US.
It was confirmed by GM that the technology for the plug-in hybrid Vue will be preserved in other brands. However, the latest word is that GM has canceled the two-mode hybrid Vue.
GM will instead utilize the FWD two-mode system for its Chevrolet Equinox crossover which will hit the market by 2011 in gasoline-electric configuration. In the Vue, the system was to utilize the 3.6-liter V6 power unit joined to the two-mode hybrid drive system and since the Equinox uses a 3.0-liter V6, General Motors required extra time to design the system again.
