British sports car company Ultima claims to have a Top Gear lap record of 1 min 9.9sec., which beats Michael Schumacher’s 1 min. 10.7sec. lap in a Ferrari FXX. However, Ultima’s attempt was unofficial. Reportedly, Ultima had booked out the test track and completed a circuit in a GTR720 road car with that speed.

It is believed that the BBC has repeatedly denied offers to test the Ultima on Top Gear saying the car would not clear a speed hump, which Ultima denies. Richard Marlow, Director of Ultima Sports, said that the company is “absolutely thrilled” with this lap record. He asserted that the Formula 1 inspired Ferrari FXX may have been quick in the hands of Michael Schumacher, but he strongly believes that it isn’t a match for its Ultima GTR720 road car. Marlow also challenged anyone who had doubts about the GTR720’s ability to clear all speed humps.
