Unique cars to be sold at RM Auctions

RM Auctions, together with Sotheby‚Äôs, will highlight a host of creative custom cars by Andy Saunders, a leading UK designer, at the opening of their second annual ‚ÄòAutomobiles of London‚Äô affair at Battersea Park, London on the 29th of October. Considered as the UK‚ best custom car maker, Saunders has been at the cutting edge of unconventional car creations for almost three decades, having customized more than 40 cars and restored a few classics. However, what really helped him attract international attention and garner critical approval are his unconventional designs and functional car sculptures. Saunders has been described as an ‚Äòautomotive alchemist‚Äô for he can turn ordinary cars into something that is top-of-the-line. Besides involving in many European Concours d‚ÄôElegance events and currently finishing a couple of special commissions for Hyundai, most currently, he has claimed his third Guinness World Record title for the ‚Äòworld‚ lowest camper van.‚Äô Modified in just three days in full view of more than 34,000 car fans, the very small 1980 VW Camper measures only 3.3 feet tall. This month Saunders will auction 11 of his creations through RM Auctions‚Äô Automobiles of London event as a way of sharing his creative designs with other auto enthusiasts and also to make more room in his garages for new creations. Each piece effortlessly melds Saunders remarkable passion for cars with his artistic talents, wild imagination and creative vision. It is drivable art in the truest sense,‚Äù Girardo added. The auction line-up includes all Saunders‚Äô notorious and always popular 1983 Citroen 2CV6 ‚ÄúPicasso Citroen‚Äù a many-colored and totally disproportionate design which was created as if by Picasso, up to his 1989 Fiat 126 ‚ÄúFlat Out‚Äù a revolutionary sports car measuring less than 22 inches high. A perfect car for the city, he also has the drastically shortened 1961 Mini HaHa, which began as a little mini and was cut into three pieces and shortened by 2 feet, 7 inches. The third of three built, the Mini represents the closest Saunders has ever achieved to production with his designs generally restricted to one-off creations. Going together with these diminutive creations on stage are: the unbelievable 1983 Bentley Mulsanne, also known as ‚ÄúMentley Insanne,‚Äù which was formerly chosen as the ‚ÄúCar of the Month‚Äù by Rolls Royce and Bentley Owners‚Äô Club; the 1998 Suzuki Wagon R ‚ÄúThe Alchemist‚Äù a baby, fuel-saving Hummer, affectionately called the ‚ÄúCredit Crunch Hummer;‚Äù and the outstanding 1958 Ford X-2000 Recreation, the concept car that Ford never built ‚ for this amazing car, Saunders brought to life the design ideas of Alex Tremulus. More Saunders‚Äô designs scheduled for auction are: a period perfect, sixties-retro VW Beach Dune Buggy; his 1997 Austin Allegro ‚ÄúAll Ego‚Äù which was created for TV; the unique 1970 Lancia Stratos Zero Replica; the 1936 Cord 810 Sportman; and the 1962 Saab 95 Van. A full day preview will be held on the 28th of October from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Doors will open on October 29th at 10:00 a.m., with all the auction action getting underway beginning at 4:00 p.m. Admission to the event is made only by catalogue, which is available for ¬£50 and admits two.
