Upcoming diesel-powered JCW Mini to use Bmw engine

atest range of more potent diesel powerplants starting with a Mini hatchback that will have a BMW 120d engine. The BMW 4-cylinder was designed for longitudinal installation, but the engineers of Mini were able to fit it into the engine bay transversely even though it was a bit "tricky." The engine is paired with an automatic transmission in the test vehicles, but the production models are expected to come with a manual gearbox. Another possible feature is a stop-start techonology. The initial of the new Mini diesel models will be equipped with 150bhp, which was detuned from the 177bhp of the 120d. However, there are speculations that say a more potent twin-turbo diesel from the 123d may also be seen in the new Mini. This would result in a Mini diesel with more than 200bhp, and could become the foundation for a John Cooper Works diesel Mini model. The new diesel-engined Mini will begin a lead production stage this coming May when pre-production cars are lined up the Munich Headquarters of BMW. These new diesels are expected to go on sale in a year's time with a likelihood of a launch at the Geneva Motor Show next year. The 110bhp Cooper, which is powered by a powerplant developed together with PSA, is the only Mini diesel model.
