An insider has relayed information that the upcoming Nissan 200SX replacement will be on of the first models to be included in the aggressive cutbacks implemented by Carlos Ghosn to compensate for the financial difficulties the company is presently facing. For several years now, Nissan has been developing intentions for a fresh, compact, RWD sportscar. The project, dubbed Silvia, has been clearly seen in the Foria and Urge concepts that were introduced in Tokyo in 2005 and Detroit in 2006, respectively, but work has been ongoing in the background.

Pronouncements of the company's financial troubles last Monday included a Ôø°612 million loss for the third-quarter, which consequently brought about reports of cutbacks on programs for future versions, although no one expected that the 200SX will be included in it. The company wants to focus its attention on small and medium-sized vehicles including an electric vehicle that will compete with the Prius and which will be introduced in 2010. Nissans plans for the large, quick and ultra-fashionable Infiniti saloon based on GT-R platform to compete with cars such as the Porsche Panamera and Lagonda Rapide have been postponed. [source]
