US SEC asks Tata Motors about exports to Africa, Middle East

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has sought information with regards to the exports of Tata Motors Ltd. to the Middle East and Africa, Debasis Ray, a spokesperson for Mumbai-based Tata Motors, had disclosed. Tata Motors is the Indian owner of Jaguar Land Rover. It is also the manufacturer of the Nano, the cheapest vehicle in the world.

Ray did not disclose the name of the countries that the SEC wanted information about. He also didn't reveal why the agency inquired about the exports. Tata Motors said it will respond to the SEC within 10 working days.

During the year ended March 31, 2011, Tata Motors exported 58,044 units, or 7.2 percent of total sales, the company revealed in its website. Tata Motors didn’t break down exports by geography. SEC spokesperson John Nester did not comment on this matter.
