V8-powered Ariel Atom to cost at least £100,000

The CEO of the carmaker Ariel said that they are coming out with a V8-powered Atom which will come with at least 100k Pound price tag. The new model, the most extreme Atom to date, will be manufacture in a highly limited number and will hit the markets in just a few months.
Contrary to earlier speculations that the Atom will be powered by a version of the Russel Savory 2.4 liter powerplant found in the Caterham Levante, the actual engine, however, will be Ariel‚ own design. The engine was developed by John Hartley, an American powerplant designer. Although the unit is patterned after the Suzuki Hayabusa units, much of the structure of the 3.0 liter powerplant is uniquely Ariel. The engine, which produces 500bhp, propels the 500kg Atom from standstill to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds. The high sticker price of the Atom, which is actually 3 times the price of the Atom 300, is accounted by engine cost which amounts to 30k Pounds and the six-speed gearbox that costs 11k Pounds.
