V8-powered Bentley Continental GT: new details revealed

2011 Bentley Continental GT

It’s not a secret anymore that Bentley is planning to introduce a smaller 4.0-litre direct-injection V8 engine on the current Bentley Continental GT model, which was introduced back in September at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. What we didn’t know until now, is that the new engine will be offered in two versions: single- and twin- turbocharged. The single-turbocharged version will deliver around 415 hp according to Autocar, while the twin-turbocharged version will deliver a total output of 555 bhp.

This means that the total output delivered by the twin-turbocharged V8 engine will be very close to the current engine that powers the Continental GT: an impressive 6.0-liter W12 engine delivering 575 bhp and 700 Nm of torque.

Although we have no details regarding the performances of the new V8-powered Bentley Continental GT, we do know that the W12-powered model wis capable to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds, while its top speed is claimed to be 198 mph (308 km/h). Regarding the new V8 engine, this will also be available on the Bentley Mulsanne flagship sedan which currently uses a 6.75 liter twin-turbo V8 delivering 505 bhp and an impressive 1000 Nm of torque.
