Vauxhall chairman postpones his retirement

Instead of retiring at the end of the year as had been announced, Bill Parfitt, chairman and managing director of General Motors Co.'s Vauxhall division, will stay on as the company's chairman.
Last November, 62-year-old Parfitt said that he would retire and retain a non-executive role as chairman. Parfitt‚ plans have changed and he will now serve as GMUK chairman with a strategic role to prepare its UK business for future growth. When he leaves, GM Europe executive Duncan Aldred will take over as Vauxhall's new managing director. Continued after the jump!
Aldred is set to manage Vauxhall's operational activities with a focus on sales, marketing and aftersales. Nick Reilly, GM Europe's new president, said that Parfitt‚ ‚Äústrategic vision‚Äù and Aldred‚ ‚Äústrong operational grip‚Äù will drive the growth of the Vauxhall brand in the UK.
It was in 1998 that Parfitt joined Vauxhall as fleet operations director following a long career in senior roles in the retail sector. Meanwhile, Aldred, currently GM Europe sales operations director, entered Vauxhall as an undergraduate at the Ellesmere Port plant in northwestern England in 1990.
Vauxhall accounts for about 20 percent of GM's sales in Europe. UK is GM's fourth largest global market in the world.
